There is nothing better than a glass of Glühwein to cure the winter blues. We got this recipe from final-year student, Raquel Barradas at TUKS’ Consumer Science Faculty:
Serves 6 – 8
2whole star anise
750mldry red wine
Zest half an orange, juice all the oranges and set the juice aside.
Combine the water and sugar in a large pan and boil until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Reduce the heat and add the cloves, cinnamon, star anise, orange zest and orange juice.
Simmer for about one minute.
Reduce the heat further and add the wine.
Let it barely simmer for about an hour. The liquid should not boil.
Strain and serve.
