Pretoria play parks for those little humans

Many city moms secretly envy the farmers’ wives who can let their children run free. Safety and space are the main issues in city spaces, which is why these Pretoria play parks may come in handy.

Cedar Junction Train Theme Park

At the foot of the Bronberg Mountain Range lies an 8.5ha grassed area specially developed into the biggest train theme park in the East of Pretoria. In addition to its swimming pools with slides, jungle gyms, jumping castles, mini bake tracks, trampolines and flying swings, they also have a full mini-scale 1.2km train track with two replicas of life-sized trains. Kids can take a train trip through tunnels and over bridges around the scenic park.

Zita Park

This is one of our favourite hangout spots for kids. The park is situated in Garsfontein and a small entrance fee will get you in. The park is open every day from 9AM to 6PM and in addition to the large, outstretched lawns and playpark, it also houses a swimming pool and water slide – perfect for summer!

Irene Dairy Farm

Irene Dairy Farm is definitely a memorable family day out. We recently took German friends there and they returned twice, mainly because of the playground. Except for the state-of-the-art jungle gym that is enveloped by a huge sandpit, they also have three Vaal Japies (old tractors) that kids have endless fun on, as well as a popular tree swing. Of course, there are also many farm animals to show with it being a working dairy farm. Though the cows are usually the main attraction, the swans also boast for pretty family pictures!

And what if it’s raining, you might ask…

The FUN Room

The Fun Room is one of the best under-roof play parks you’ll find in Pretoria. Situated at Waterkloof Corner in Waterkloof, children can play freely, safely and creatively from as young as you’d like! There is a special area dedicated to children up until the age of two and the age limit is twelve. Here, kids can navigate their way through tunnels, climb up walls, play with balls and more. That all while mom and dad enjoys a cup of well-deserved coffee (or glass of wine) at the café. They even have free wifi if you need to catch up on some e-mails.

Rainy days and trampoline jumping have never been this fun! Based at Menlyn Maine, this indoor trampoline park boasts fun for the whole family. It’s also home to South Africa’s biggest trampoline, the Supertramp. It also offers the perfect school excursion, with BOUNCE Recess that can host up to 250 children at one time. School groups qualify for exclusive discounts of up to 50%.
