Kids’ Theatre – Our Top 3 for July

July 1, 2019, Author: bianca

Keeping kids busy during wintertime is often a challenge. Many parents would like to keep them indoors to refrain from catching the flu. Well, moms and dads, here are some indoor options for you:

Die Lelike Eendjie

Hosted by weeKIDZ productions and Pierneef Theatre, Die Lelike Eendjie promises to entertain both young and old. weeKIDZ Productions aim to entertain and educate through quality performances and this production should be no different. They create theatrical journeys for our youth – journeys that entertain, include and develop young audiences.

The performance of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Ugly Duckling will certainly have the young audience in awe.

The performance takes place at the Pierneef Theatre from 4 – 6 July at 10AM and tickets are sold at R60 for children and R70 for adults.

Bookings can be made at Pierneef Theatre on 012 329 0709 or info@pierneefteater.co.za.

Aladdin

The producers of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast are bringing another Disney favourite to the stage at Atterbury Theatre in July. The cast includes 45 performers that will take young and old on a journey of adventure and fantasy with toe-tapping music, witty dialogue and brilliantly designed costumes.

Miguel de Sampaio plays Aladdin, who struggles to accept his mediocre lifestyle and who wants to rise above his situation. An encounter with Prinses Jasmin, played by the pretty Eldirè Strauss, leads to him being captured and imprisoned. In return for his release, Aladdin is commanded to retrieve and object from the Cave of Wonders by none other than the evil Zahar. Matthew Otto (who played Gaston in Beauty and the Beast) will be playing Genie in this production.

Aladdin will be staged at Atterbury Theatre from 4 to 13 July with matinee performances on Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket prices range from R140 to R160 per person and can be bought online at www.itickets.co.za.

Aspoestertjie

The classic story of Cinderella comes to the Opera stage at the South African State Theatre again from 5 – 28 July as the Afrikaans pantomime, Aspoestertjie.

The production received 5-star reviews, sold out in days and was nominated for nine Naledi Awards in 2015, including Best Musical.

It boasts some of the best names in the South African entertainment industry, with Karlien van Jaarsveld once again bringing her own sparkle and energy to the stage as the title role. She will be starring opposite multi-talented actor, Zak Hendrikz who will be playing the role

of the handsome prince. Fezile Mpela will be the narrator and also a dear and loyal friend to his beloved Cinderella.

Directed by Neels Clasen, Wessel Odendaal and Clint Lesch, Aspoestertjie has at its core an innocence that’s sweetly irresistibly and at the same time deeply inspiring.

Tickets can be booked through www.webtickets.co.za or at any Pick ’n Pay store and cost R160 per person
