Contrary to what you may believe of a restaurant in a shopping centre, Plaka at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre is certainly one of the best places in Pretoria to put your feet up (not literally…that’s just rude).
With its Greece-like interiors typically painted in hues of blue and white, it already offers that cool, yet contemporary atmosphere we’re all looking for on those warm Pretoria afternoons. Added to that is the lovely piazza-type area in the middle of various eateries which includes a water feature, a largescale chessboard and other activities to entertain the kids. Plaka is located in the perfect watch-the-kids spot, allowing you to leisurely sip on a cold glass of white wine and indulge in their fine cuisine while the kids keep themselves busy for hours. And it’s great that the kids can keep themselves busy for hours as – especially with the Meze for Two special – the food just keeps coming!
Plaka’s Meze for Two is definitely worth a try. For R249 you and your partner can indulge in a Greek-inspired feast of meze-style dining including Chicken Souvlaki, Shish Kebabs, Calamari, Haloumi, Falafel, Zucchini (one of our favourites…we wanted to ask for more!), Tomato and Onion Salad and a delicious Pita & Dip.
We visited Plaka on a day where large parts of the city were hit by load shedding and even among all the chaos in the background (which we didn’t even notice), the restaurant managed to get the food out without any apparent challenges.
Go ahead – dine like a Greek this summer!
