Get to Know Suret Alive

Suret Alive is Pretoria born and bred. She has been living in the city of jacarandas for 28 years and is currently self-employed, working as an image consultant and personal trainer.

Her home is in Brooklyn and to her, living in this side of town is a bonus, as it is close to the N1, the Gautrain station and large shopping centres like Menlyn Park Shopping Centre and Brooklyn Mall. Of course, the Jacaranda trees in this old neighbourhood are always a treat and Suret just loves Brooklyn for its unique beauty and the fact that it is currently one of the safer neighbourhoods to live in.

Another one of her favourite places in the city of jacarandas is Pretoria East. “There is a lovely residential estate, Boardwalk Meander, and also a variety of farms and plots that are open to the public to use for hiking and jogging.” Boardwalk Meander is situated on the Eastern-most border of Pretoria and boasts magnificent birdlife that can be spotted from a couple of bird hides and walkways bordering lakes. There is also a jetty where children like to feed the wild ducks that seem to have taken up permanent residency here. Suret also likes to jog at Hedianga Farm, a farm with facilities for mountain biking, trail running, birding and dog walking. She says that exercising at SEB’s Elite Boxing at Loftus is also fun. The hour sessions ensure good muscle building and cardio. “I also like the FitFirst Studio in Hazelwood, because their sessions are only 30 minutes long. I feel very at home there.”

When she’s not exercising, her husband likes to treat her to a meal at Modern Italian Kitchen in Menlo Park. But, he’s not the only one who gets to spoil someone; she likes to stick him for a movie at Brooklyn Mall. Their ultimate favourite, though, is the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm just outside of Pretoria.

Suret’s plans for this new year include practising patience, taking definite steps to handle stress better and learning to cook healthy dinners.
