Among shiny city rooftops lies The Farm Inn – a 42-hectare piece of land boasting some of the best leisure activities right here in Pretoria East.
A pink Bougainvillea colours the entrance to The Farm Inn’s reception and the sweet smell of spring and the surprising sound of roaring lions welcome us. To our left is a large firepit perfect for bonfires and we suddenly crave a bushveld braai. The lounge area takes us back in time with an eclectic mix of vintage-looking coffee tables and chairs that shouldn’t really fit together, but as a whole they do.
Owner, Pedro is at his habitual table and seems excited to share the story of what he has built up over 40 years. His grey beard sparks curiosity about his memories of the hotel industry’s heydays and the two times The Farm Inn burnt down. The Farm Inn has been his dream all along and him mentioning a new health-orientated Pedro’s Menu and an on-site vegetable garden proves that he is not done dreaming just yet.
The Farm Inn is all about a family farm experience in the middle of the city. Pedro’s love for children is what initiated the idea of the Children’s Farmyard, where kids get to see farm animals they don’t see every day. Here they can mingle with rabbits, tortoises, chickens, geese, ducks, alpacas, ponies and more. The Farm Inn also offers donkey-cart and pony rides over weekends. The breakfast and lunch game drive combos are extremely popular over weekends and it is available to guests during the week too. (Bookings are essential). The reserve offers an array of species for viewing, including lions, giraffe, kudu, impala, springbuck and more. The Farm Inn’s Sunday Lunch Buffets are also very popular, and you can also watch the rugby world cup on big screens here.
If you are looking for the best pizza in town, The Farm Inn might be a good place to start. They use stoneground, non-bleached, non-GMO flour for their pizza bases and homemade breads. As Pedro says: “I am a firm believer in you are what you eat. The idea is to do everything homemade that it really is a farm hotel.”
Family and fond memories seem to be the glue that holds The Farm Inn together. “People like us. There are people who remember me from my father’s hotel – the old Hellenic Hotel. There are people who got married here 30 years ago and now their children want to get married here too.”
Whether it’s for a kiddies party, a garden grill special, a game drive, a Sunday lunch buffet or even the upcoming rugby world cup, The Farm Inn is the perfect place to bring the family together.
The Farm Inn is not necessarily only for families. It’s also the perfect venue for corporate events like year-end functions and meetings over lunch. Book your year-end function on 012 809 0266 or email@example.com today and save 25% on venue hire.
