We wish! He is, however, currently filming a movie called Escape from Pretoria in Australia of all places.
Arclight Films, MEP Capital and the South Australian Film Corporation announced the commencement of the movie’s production on 13 March. Yup, the Harry Potter star has taken on a film directed by Francis Annan, based on Tim Jenkin’s book: Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison. Annan makes his feature film directorial debut from the screenplay he co-penned with LH Adams and the filming recently started in Adelaide, Australia. Daniel Radcliffe plays Tim Jenkin, the real-life white South African activist.
Escape from Pretoria is a true-life prison break feature film about two white South African twenty-somethings who are branded ‘terrorists’. Tim Jenkins (Daniel Radcliffe) and Stephen Lee (Daniel Webber) are imprisoned for their involvement in covert anti-apartheid operations for the ANC. Incarcerated in Pretoria Maximum Security Prison, Jenkin and Lee – joined by a fellow-inmate – decide to send the regime a clear message and escape.
Escape from Pretoria is produced by Arclight’s Hamilton and Michelle Krumm, BeaglePug’s David Barron and Footprint Films’ Mark Blaney and Jackie Sheppard.
“Much more than just another prison break thriller, Escape from Pretoria is a story of our time, a story of risking everything in the fight for freedom and equality, against injustice and oppression,” says UK producers David Barron and Jackie Sheppard.
The film will be post-produced in Melbourne, having received support through Film Victoria’s PDV incentive program. It is an Australian/UK co-production between Hamilton Entertainment, BeaglePug and Footprint Films.
