Braai Broodjies for National Braai Day

Heritage Day takes place on Monday 24 September, and has become more affectionately know as National Braai Day as it calls on all South Africans to participate in the national pastime that unites us all. One braai dish which we can all relate to is the BRAAI BROODJIE. It can cater for the meat lovers and the vegetarians with a simple switch in ingredients and is delicious as a main or a side dish – or straight off the coals!

Ingredients:

2 slices of bread (per braai broodjie)

Butter or margarine

Cheese (we lean to Cheddar but Gouda or Mozarella are equally delicious)

Tomato (sliced)

Onion (thinly sliced)

Mrs Balls Chutney

 

Optional Extras:

Fillet Strips

Bacon

Chicken

Method:

Lay out your pieces and on one slice begin to layer your ingredients:

Slices of cheese

Slices of fresh tomato

A few strips of onion

Your meat additions (optional)

On the other slice of bread, spread a thin layer of Mrs Balls Chutney

Close the sandwich and butter the outside of the sandwich (both sides)

Place in a folding grill and place over the moderate coals until golden and the cheese has melted.
