24 Hours in Pretoria with the Boys

December 13, 2018, Author: Danita Pilley

And just like that, the year is pretty much over! Boom. We’re all in holiday mode and planing how to spend our long awaited and much-needed time off. We’re focusing on the boys this month so this one’s for him. When it comes to men and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it usually goes something like this: food, sport, beer and sport. So, we are going back to the basics. Whether you’re dying for a day spent with the lads or if you’re a lady looking to treat the man in your life, these next 24 hours will be just up his alley. Think 18 holes, an ice-cold beer and a classic slap chips.

Happiness is a long walk with a putter

The early morning tee-off with the first light of the day, the flawless conduct of players who take the game’s etiquette very seriously and the gratification of sinking that ball – we know you love the sound of that.

Here are some of P-towns top courses to try:

Waterkloof Golf Club: Near the Groenloef Nature Reserve, the Waterkloof Course is pretty spectacular. This course works for beginners as well as the more seasoned golfer.  The De Kloof restaurant is an attraction on its own with its great food and extensive wine list for all the ladies who want to tag along.

Pretoria Country Club: Renowned for being the quality, sports and social venue in Pretoria, the Pretoria Country Club is set in the magnificent surrounds of Waterkloof and was designed by Gary Player. Golf lessons are available and the venue hosts corporate events as well.

Pebble Rock: The well-known Pebble Rock Golf Course is just 25 kilometres outside the CBD of Pretoria. It is close to the Roodeplaat Dam and next to the Sable Hills Waterfront Estate. The course really is a golfer’s dream, combining perfect surrounds with rolling fairways and challenging greens. The tee boxes are the only level areas that golfers will experience on this interesting course, which is ideally suited to all handicaps.

Beer o’ Clock

After playing his personal best (hold thumbs), why not go for a celebratory beer. Don’t act like you’re not in the mood for one too!

African Beer Emporium: Open from Wednesdays to the weekend, ABE is a great spot for a sunny day with their outdoor seating. Lucky for you and dad, the venue is also kid-friendly (depending on who the bigger child is of course)

381 Church Street

Capital Craft Beer Academy: Known for their craft beers and good food, Capital Craft is also on a mission to promote the craft brewing industry in South Africa and serves as an accessible outlet for specialist brewers.

Grease up

There’s been some golf, some beer and some laughs. But before you head home, best you grab some grub! And seeing as though it’s boy’s day take a break from chicken breasts and salad for something he really wants. Why not try one of these quickies.

Jimmy Killer Fish and Chips: Pop into Jimmy Killer Fish (a scaled down/quick-take-out version of Jimmy Killer Prawns) for a lekker and quick fish and chips order.

52 Grant Avenue, Norwood

Steers: You can’t go wrong with a hero steak-roll and slap chips. He will love you forever.
